Since installing SurvalentONE SCADA and OMS, we’ve achieved an impressive 88 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, our highest-ever score.
The Challenge
Mid-Ohio’s electricity distribution network spreads across hundreds of miles of line through 10 rural counties, making it difficult to manually monitor the network, diagnose problems, and take corrective action. With field crew travel times often measured in hours, even minor glitches could lead to sustained outages. The utility decided that it needed a centralized, user-friendly supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) solution that would allow it to oversee the grid remotely. Mid-Ohio further realized that an outage management system (OMS) would play a key role in minimizing response times and helping restore power to customers faster.
The Solution
Since implementing SurvalentONE SCADA, Mid-Ohio has observed a marked decrease in the duration of power outages. Crews in the office and in the field now have easy access to the entire network and are using device-tagging to improve safety. SurvalentONE OMS has been integrated with their smart meter network, customer information system, and trouble call system, so that customers can report outages via phone, mobile app, or the outage portal and monitor the status of outages in real-time.Crews can now pinpoint problems along the network’s lines so they can begin restoration activities more quickly. As a result, the utility’s System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) has decreased from 128 minutes to 46 minutes.
