A steady, two-way communication between field crews and the control room is crucial for ensuring crew safety and enabling faster outage restoration. Reducing outage durations is a critical step in improving CMI, SAIDI, and SAIFI performance metrics, and increasing customer satisfaction.

Radio communications between field crews and the control room can only go so far. Dispatchers, operators, field crew, and management must be able to view and share detailed information on outage cases, tickets and damage reports, and network connectivity to enable faster restorations and repairs and optimize field crew deployments, even when they’re offline.

Utilities must empower field crew with on-the-go access to work assignments and the ability to relay real-time information back to the control room for timely, informed decision-making.

SurvalentONE Polaris ensures a safe, coordinated response to every outage by giving the field crew secure, anywhere, anytime access to work assignments. Crews can view the current network state, including the status of conductors, switches, transformers and meters, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) information, device tags set by operators in the control room, and overlaid OMS information such as outage area, tickets, and jobs on their tablets and laptops. In the same application, they can create damage reports, report progress, and close jobs to keep control-room personnel apprised of their field activities in real time.

If crew are working offline in remote areas, they can even continue to view and edit their work when they have no cell coverage – the application will automatically sync with the OMS and update all data when connectivity is restored.

Crews can ping meters to verify in real-time which customers are out, and confirm restoration status after work is completed. They can also manually set the status of non-telemetered devices upon task completion, enabling faster updating of outage’s restoration status.

With SurvalentONE Polaris, utilities can improve decision-making, maximize field crew productivity, reduce operational costs, and restore outages faster to improve customer satisfaction and performance metrics.
